Many children in Benin lack basic education, a balanced diet and a healthy social network. Numerous children grow up without their father and/or mother, or are sent to uncles or aunts to work like slaves in their households. The rate of children becoming victims of child trafficking and abuse is growing.
One of the reasons that children and widows are the most vulnerable members of Beninese society is the fact that wives have no inheritance from their husbands. The inheritance is only passed to brothers and sons or nephews. Thus, orphaned children need support in order to be able to live like their peers who still have their parents and a healthy social network.
...has been caring for more than 40 children living in difficult conditions since December 2004. Arbre de vie takes care of their nutrition, clothing, school education, aswell as their psychological and physical health.
Social surveys are conducted, and the children in the worst living conditions are selected to live in the orphanage. In Yedidja, we give children from age 2 to 14 a future.
Our qualified staff takes care of the children, and play the role of their mother and father. They receive affection and love, honest interest and trust in them as people. They are truly being cared for and developed as if they were our own children. We teach them to be independent and to take care of themselves.
